A President Cockblocks A Proposal
"I know I said we would go to Westminster Abby today, but we can't; we have to go tomorrow."
As I fastened my opal necklace on the thin gold chain, I turned to Jason, frustrated by the sudden change, and was about to ask why when I saw he was sweating. "Are you ok?" He looks away and down and up anywhere but at me and says, "Yes, of course, just today is a better day for that bookstore you wanted to go to. I think it's overcast." I shake my head to myself and wonder why he is acting so strange, but go with it; who cares what day we do what? I'm back in my favorite place on earth, with my favorite person, and I just got a master's degree. As long as we can smell the sweet wisteria on the breeze and get to wander the cobbled stones of St. Christopher Street, we are ok; we are wonderful.
The next day, as we stroll through the tombs, I reminisce about all the time I spent visiting Chaucer, Dickens, and Hardy while I studied abroad and how I loved the slight chill and the silence of this place. Jason agreed it was magnificently peaceful. As we made our way out of Poet's Corner and headed past the cloister garth with its gleaming green grass still wet with dew, Jason grabbed my hand and kissed me."Thank you for sharing this special place with me." He gazed into my eyes intently, and as I started to answer, he sank to his right knee and, holding my left hand in his right, reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring. An audible gasp escapes a blonde lady with a bouffant the size of Texas, which we come to find out is where she is from, she has captured a picture at the moment I say yes. The Texan is overcome, rushes us with hugs, and offers to text us the fabulous picture she took of you “two sweet things.”
As we make our way to the pub across the street to celebrate, Jason says, "Can you believe last-minute Obama decided to come here yesterday? I thought he was going to ruin my proposal! Cockblocked by a president, what are the chances?" We laughed into our champagne, dazzled by the moment, the new ring on my finger, and the sparkle of a future yet untold.

Does this card inspire a story in you? If it does, I want to hear it!
I only asked for one card,
but the deck spit two at me instead.
Still stuck together
yet aware of the pair,
I peeled them apart and
turned them over in the air -
King of Pentacles, Queen of Swords.
Seems to be a love reading, I’m sure.
Ok Spirit, I’m listening.
Tell me more about this King.
Is it anyone I’ve known before?
Judgment came out.
Fuck– that’s Chris’s card.
It appeared constantly after we met, illuminating discontent
from the way we see
to the things we said;
misguided identities
and mistaken intents.
With disguises as shields,
masks to armor the heart,
our only agreement was in our apart
and refusal to view
each other clearly.
I haven’t drawn this one
in several months, nearly.
He’s not coming back is he?
5 of Cups, 5 of Wands, 3 of Wands ..
Grief, stress, and an unfolding journey..
but to where?
Into the corners of his psyche,
the depths of his despair?
Now onto me, the scorn winter Queen. Wielding the sword of truth
in the waistband of her jeans.
Isolation over inauthenticity,
death over deceit.
10 of Cups, 10 of Swords,
the High Priestess lying beneath.
Fulfillment, intuition, demise by way of belief
It’s over now–
just embrace the peace
that solitude brings.
